I've been told, black bears are less common on the Chilkoot, especially if brown bears are still about. This black bear came down to the same spot on two separate days. Animals are creatures of habit. Locals reported the berries were virtually non-existant this spring and summer. That makes the fish all the more important for eating and storing fat for the cold, long winter. This guy was looking for last few fish before taking a long nap for the winter.
